San Francisco based Asian Neighborhood Design is celebrating 40 years of community serving work with a “40 Projects for 40 Years” campaign on their Facebook page! As they approach their 40th anniversary in 2013, AND will celebrate, honor and highlight their four decades revitalizing communities and designing for social change by highlighting a key AND project each week. With a nearly 40 year history of passionately serving low-income individuals and communities, there is no shortage enduring AND project stories.

In one of its first installments, the “40 Projects for 40 Years” series honored all the wonderful staff, students, and volunteers who have kept Asian Neighborhood Design’s Employment Training Center going strong for 34 years!

Since 1978, the Employment Training Center has offered training in construction to young adults with barriers to employment. Their program is as a critical first step for participants towards true pathways out of poverty.  With the help of Roots of Success, the Employment Training Center teaches trainees about environmental issues, social justice, and the green economy. By weaving these ideas into our green job training, we empower students with the knowledge and ability to not only improve their lives, but take an active role in improving environmental conditions of underserved communities from which many have arisen. Over the past 34 years, AND has trained over 2,500 individuals in carpentry and green construction through the Employment Training Center. Congratulations Asian Neighborhood Design!
