On Monday, February 13, 2012 Asian Neighborhood Design (AND) celebrated the graduation of another 20 youth and young adults from their ‘Employment Training Center’ program. Headquartered in the South of Market (or SoMa) neighborhood in San Francisco, AND is a more than 30 year old non-profit architecture and community planning organization that also offers employment training and support services to at-risk, low-income youth and young adults living in San Francisco. In addition to providing training on green construction, life and employment skills, and developing plans for self-sufficiency, the Employment Training Center uses the Roots of Success curriculum to ensure that every one of their graduates has the knowledge, skills, and confidence to — in the words of site manager and certified Roots of Success instructor Jamie Brewster — become “ambassadors of green” in the construction field, and to also share that information with friends, family, and other people in their community. Roots of Success staff who attended the graduation celebration had a fantastic time, and really appreciated the opportunity to speak with some of the amazing graduates — including Rael, Wendy, Frenchie, and Thomas — who shared the impact of the Roots of Success course and AND program on their personal development.

This graduating class was one of the largest in the Employment Training Center’s long history and the entire Roots of Success team would like to congratulate the graduates, staff, and organization for this monumental accomplishment.
